Skin Resurfacing Options
Our licensed skin aesthetician Paulette oversees a majority of our non-invasive, office-based "Afterglow" skin rejuvenation services for our patients, which principally involve either mechanical exfoliation/resurfacing or chemical peels in Chicago.
Paul M. Steinwald, M.D. is one of the few plastic surgeons in Chicago who is double-board certified in both plastic and general surgery. Read On
Microdermabrasion
The cornerstone of our skin resurfacing services is the Régenique™ skin rejuvenation system (as seen demonstrated by Lake Forest Plastic Surgery on Fox Morning News with Tamron Hall), which utilizes microdermabrasion to exfoliate dead or dried layers of skin, followed by ultrasound therapy to stimulate the deeper collagen, elastin and fibroblast components of the dermis. "Regenique" is an enjoyable, spa-like experience, which also features a warm silicone face mask as a third component to super-hydrate the skin, leach away toxins and debris via perspiration, and simultaneously dilate the pores to encourage the deeper absorption of skin care products. The procedure is optimal for adults of all ages with sun-damaged, dehydrated skin, is safe for almost all skin types, takes about 45 minutes, and there is virtually no down-time. A Chicago microdermabrasion treatment on its own can also benefit virtually any skin type.
Chemical Peel in Chicago
Paulette is also an expert at recommending the most appropriate skin peels depending upon your needs. The simplest chemical peel with the least amount of potential downtime is the VI-Peel™. This inexpensive, single-step, 20-minute peel can lend a healthy, natural appearing glow to your skin later that same day.
Many people with sun-damaged skin in Chicago seek facial rejuvenation using more in-depth peels. We feature NeoStrata® physician-strength glycolic acid peels, which are a viable alternative to more invasive chemical peels. Benefits include a diminished appearance of acne scarring or fine lines along with noticeably softer, more supple and radiant skin. This peel can be especially beneficial for oily-prone skin. Preparation at home with the NeoStrata professional home care regimen 2 weeks prior to the peels is required, and a series of 6 peels is recommended for optimal results.
For patients with somewhat more involved pigmentation or complexion irregularities, we have incorporated into our practice the highly effective Obagi® skin care line as an at-home regimen for patients with melasma (uneven, "blotchy" pigmentation) due to sun-damage or hormonal fluctuations. More severe cases can thereafter be treated with the Obagi Blue Peel, usually under anesthesia, and administered by Dr. Steinwald.
Your Next Step
If you are considering skin treatments in Chicago to neutralize uneven pigmentation, minimize irregular texture and optimize your complexion in general, skin resurfacing can help you. Appointments for skin evaluations or formal treatments generally are on Wednesday afternoons and take place in our on-site Room 3 Medi-spa, but Paula is also often available Wednesday mornings to provide complementary skin evaluations "on the spot." She is happy to see patients requiring skin care from all over the Chicago-area, as well as northern Lake County and southern Wisconsin, who may not yet be ready for plastic surgery, but are interested in non-invasive skin rejuvenation. Please call us at (847) 234-9464 to schedule your visit.
