Skin Care in Chicago

If you are interested in professional skin care in Chicago to help balance your complexion or eliminate finer wrinkles, you are probably an excellent candidate for our office-based "Afterglow" Aesthetic Skin Care Services. We have been proud to feature Paulette as our licensed aesthetician since 2005, to oversee and administer these services. Paulette, who has practiced under the supervision of a dermatologist in southern Wisconsin, is currently offering medical-grade facial skin care treatments (such as facials and glycolic acid peels) to smooth, refine and rejuvenate your overall appearance, without undergoing invasive surgery.

Before initiating any topical treatment, Paulette will perform a careful skin evaluation that reviews your sun exposure history, medical history and history of prior skin problems or treatments. She will perform a global skin analysis, also utilizing a dermascope (lighted magnification) to identify special problem spots.

Some of the most popular skin care treatments at our practice include BOTOX® Cosmetic, injectable fillers like Restylane® and JUVÉDERM®, and skin rejuvenation through microdermabrasion and peels. Other services offered by "Afterglow" include:

Lasers

The most recent addition to our "Afterglow" skin therapy, due to the popular demand of our patients from in and around Chicago, has been laser skin rejuvenation, currently offered once a month on special "laser days." Paulette has recently has undergone advanced training in laser therapy, and can effectively treat excess/unwanted hair, spider veins/telangiectasias, acne scarring or complexion irregularities, or early to moderate signs of aging in general. These "laser days" are usually on the first Wednesday afternoon of each month, and by appointment only.

Facials

Paulette offers customized facials for our patients, designed to suit your individual skin concerns, including deep pore cleansing, hydration, and minimization of the effects of sun damage and/or rosacea. Our facials utilize medical-grade products (such as the NeoStrata® line) and take 30-60 minutes each. Antioxidant and proteolytic enzyme facials use pharmaceutical-grade levels of vitamin C products to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, age spots and hyperpigmentation. The VI-Peel is our simplest, most affordable peel that can improve skin clarity, reduce areas of hyperpigmentation/melasma, soften fine lines and wrinkles, and even improve acne conditions and scarring in as little as 1 week. Patients with more severe complexion issues may need to undergo a series of glycolic acid peels which can help reverse the cumulative effects of sun damage. Finally, facials are great pampering treatments: all facials include hand, arm, and foot massage, and treat the neck and upper back, as well as the facial area.

Skin Care Products

Paulette can also advise on a wide variety of medical-grade take-home skin care products, principally the Obagi® NuDerm and NIA 24® (niacin-powered) skin care lines. The NuDerm products utilize Vitamin C-based products, hydroquinolone bleaching lotions, Retin-A (tretinoin) as well as cleansers and sun-blocking moisturizers. This system protects skin from free-radicals and environmental pollutants, improves complexion, and ultimately transforms the health of your skin.

We also now offer a more affordable line of skin care products by Revision® Skincare, which features agents such as Teamine® Eye Complex for dark circles under the eyes (or post-operative bruising), as well as Nectifirm®, a cream to firm the skin of the neck and décolletage.

We are constantly assessing newer products that come on the market, and have recently added LATISSE®, the FDA-approved topical treatment that creates darker and thicker eyelashes over a 16-week course of treatment.

Your Next Step

Appointments for skin evaluations or formal treatments generally are on Wednesday afternoons and take place in our on-site Room 3 Medi-spa, but Paula is also often available Wednesday mornings to provide complementary skin evaluations "on the spot." She is happy to see patients requiring skin care from all over the Chicago area, as well as northern Lake County and southern Wisconsin, who may not yet be ready for plastic surgery, but are interested in non-invasive skin rejuvenation.
